Monroe County shines it's beauty through a diverse array of exquisite waterfalls, showcasing some of the best waterfalls in East Tennessee. Just over an hour drive north of Chattanooga TN, south of Knoxville TN and The Great Smoky Mountains, Monroe County offers a range of waterfall experiences for all types of visitors. From waterfalls that are accessible at the roadside, to those that compel a more challenging hike. There is an adventure that awaits those who are prepared to embark on this journey.

 Where to find the best waterfalls in Tennessee? 

Bald River Falls & Consauga Creek Falls are considered some of the best waterfalls in Tennessee. Visiting these falls are highly recommended for visitation, and remaining one of the finest recreational activities for both residents and tourists.​

Bald River Falls  can be observed from the pedestrian viewing area on Tellico River Road
 
DIRECTIONS
Starting from the Cherohala Skyway Visitor Center take Hwy 165 S about 5 miles where you veer right onto FS road 210 (Tellico River Road). From that point, it is about 6 miles to Bald River Falls. Parking is located on the right side of the road right after the bridge.

TRAIL 88 FALLS 

FS Trail 88 is a hike to remember, with SIX FALLS to enjoy along the trail.
The trail begins at Bald River Falls and progresses upstream to Kahuna Falls, Bald River Cascade,
Suislide Falls, Shallow Falls, and ending at Torino Falls .
You will find the trailhead located at the end of Bald River Falls parking.   
The entire hike is moderately difficult and is 5.6 miles one way, you don’t need to complete the
entire distance to see some of the falls, and the first few falls are easier to get to.

DIRECTIONS:
Starting from Cherohala Skyway Visitor Center take Highway 165 S approximately 8 miles. Make a right onto FS Road 210 (Tellico River Road) and drive about 9.83 miles. Next, make a right onto FS Road 126 ( Bald River Road) and drive about 6.42 miles south to reach the trailhead for FS Trail 88.

Go over the bridge crossing Little Cove Branch, parking spots are located on your right. The FS Trail 88 head starts on your right side of the road before the bridge.

Baby Falls Waterfall in the Cherokee National Forest

 BABY FALLS

DISTANCE: 

The waterfall is situated downstream, located around 320 feet below the parking area.

DIRECTIONS:

Starting from Cherohala Skyway Visitor Center take Hwy 165 S about 5 miles where you veer right onto FS road 210 (Tellico River Road). From that point, it is about 6 miles to Bald River Falls, from the  Bald River Falls parking , proceed up FS Road 210 for 0.33 miles; there is a parking area situated on the left side of the roadway.

Middle Doublecamp Creek in Monroe County Tennessee

Middle Doublecamp Creek features a series of three cascades that invite us to experience their beauty from a breathtaking view right off the road.

 

DIRECTIONS:

Starting from Vonore on TN 360 S, head south about 13.4 miles and then make a left onto Chestnut Valley Road (504) for about 1.6 miles.  After that, go left again on Buck HWY (506) and keep going for about 3.4 miles until you reach Citico Creek Road (FS Road 35-1) keep right on Citico Creek Road then go about 6.6 miles until you reach Double Camp Road. Make a left and continue for about 1.3 miles until you see the middle cascade on your right.

Fall Branch Falls Waterfall on Trail 87 in the Cherokee National Forest

 FALLS BRANCH FALLS

TRAIL: FS Trail 87

DISTANCE: 2.6 miles Round Trip

DIFFICULTY: Moderate - Difficult

BLAZE: White 

 

DIRECTIONS:

Starting from the Cherohala Skyway Visitor Center, travel TN-165 East up the Skyway for 22.3 miles. Parking is on an old road surface to your left. Walk to the right from the road and you will arrive at trailhead FS Trail 87.

 

HEED: 

Trail goes straight down a really steep hill. It’s not too hard to go down, but getting back up is a challenge. The last 75 feet is steep. It’s not a great trail for people who are not in good physical health.

Holder Cove Waterfall in Tellico Plains Tennessee

TRAIL: 

The trailhead is located at the west end of the campground, on the right side of the road across from the restrooms. It is not marked and you must look for it between trees.

DISTANCE: > .25 miles

DIFFICULTY: Easy 

 

DIRECTIONS: 

Starting from the Cherohala Skyway Visitor Center  take  Highway 165 S approximately 8 miles. Make a right onto FS Road 210 (Tellico River Road) and continue for about 13 miles until you reach Holder Cove Campground.

Conasuaga Creek Falls Waterfall on Trail 170 in the Cherokee National Forest Tennessee

DIFFICULTY: Moderate - Difficult

DIRECTIONS: 

Starting from Tellico Plains, TN, head South on TN-68 for about 2.9 miles. Make a right turn onto FS Road 341, drive for 2.33 miles, veer right onto FS Road 341A for about .54 miles, and then you’ll reach the beginning of Trail 170.
