Go Antiquing on Main Street
Fall is the best season to go antiquing. The weather is mild (who wants to lug old furniture in the Summer heat or Winter cold) and you'll dodge the holiday crowds. Sweetwater's Main Street is famous for its quaintness and that nostalgic vibe can be found in the antique stores lining the road. Sweetwater Antiques is a must-visit with 8,000 square feet of furniture and memorabilia. Also check out Sweetwater Market at the Mill just down the street. It has a mix of antiques and more contemporary items from local vendors.
Check out the Boutique Seasonal Items
Once that Summer heat starts to disappear, it is time to bust out the sweaters, scarves, and hoodies. Sure, you can go buy a hoodie at a big-box store, but why would you do that when there are so many boutiques waiting for you in downtown Sweetwater? All of them are owned by local women and sell a variety of Fall apparel, with some of the pieces showing off local pride! We recommend Dogwood Lane Boutique, Relaxed and Refined Menswear, and The Lily Pad Boutique. As you go from store to store, you can stroll down Main Street and relax (way better than the hustle of a huge department store). Once you finish shopping, get something to eat at one of the nearby restaurants.
Grab some snacks at Grain Bin Commodities
What goes better with a chilly Fall day than some fresh baked cookies? Grain Bin Commodities is a ten minute drive from downtown Sweetwater and sells baked goods with most of the ingredients coming from their own farm. During the Fall, they have seasonal treats like caramel apples and pumpkin rolls. They also host Fall on the Farm, an autumnal festival featuring all the classics such as a corn maze, pumpkin patch, and hay ride. If you are willing to save those treats, go for a picnic in downtown Sweetwater at one of the parks or the train car.
Have some spooky fun at Historic Halloween
Every Halloween, the historic downtown in Sweetwater becomes a place fit for grinning ghosts as the city hosts a Halloween party right on Main Street. Historic Halloween is a free, family-friendly event where kids (and the young at heart) can dress up and go trick-or-treating. Witches, robots, secret agents, and astronauts are all welcome. The candies are given out by local businesses and organizations. Historic Halloween also includes vendors, a kids zone, and a 360° photo booth. You don't want to miss Mayes Avenue for some old fashioned trick-or-treating at the historic homes.
Get a Hot Drink at Cup Runneth Over
On a chilly Fall morning, what you need is a hot cup of coffee. Cup Runneth Over Coffeehouse in downtown Sweetwater has an extensive coffee menu with espresso, lattes, mochas, as well as hot chocolate, tea, and smoothies. When you visit in the Fall, check out their Autumn Specials with festive names like the Pumpkin Patch (a pumpkin spice latte with salted maple) or the Harvest Spice (a white mocha with cinnamon powder). The coffeehouse also includes a bakery with fresh baked goods like cupcakes, pastries, and muffins. This is an excellent place to start your day in Sweetwater. If you are in a hurry, Cup Runneth Over has mobile order and opens at 06:30 AM.
