The murals of Monroe County, Tennessee, infuse the historic downtown streets of Sweetwater, Madisonville, and Tellico Plains with vibrant colors and excitement. These murals not only tell captivating stories but also celebrate the rich heritage to the people who have shaped these towns.

The murals also foster a creative culture and open opportunities for collaboration with non-profits like Do.More.Art. We are proud to feature several pieces as part of the
Walls for Women Project, which honors the significant contributions of women.

Appalachian Quilt Trail Logo

The AQT features large, painted quilt blocks displayed on barns and homes across the Appalachian region. Monroe County, part of this trail, showcases the area’s rich heritage through colorful quilt designs that reflect local history and culture. Galleries & Museums   

Currently, Monroe County is home to a single art gallery in Tellico Plains Historic Downtown Arts District, offering a delightful array of original paintings, carvings, pottery, jewelry, woodwork, and more, all reflecting the natural beauty of East Tennessee. However, we have several museums in our county providing opportunities to explore even more art, including traditional Appalachian crafts and Native American heritage pieces.
